Staff Spotlight: Chey Gomez

Congratulations to Chey Gomez on her upcoming graduation from Cal State University, Fullerton! Chey started with us as an intern back in Jan. 2017 and officially joined as a Sweet Relief staff member in July 2017. Since then she has taken over our weekly newsletter and works closely with the Development department at Sweet Relief.

We recently sat down with Chey to chat and get to know her a little better.

You’re so close to graduating with your Bachelor’s! What was your motivation to start this long journey in school and has that reason changed over the years?

To be honest, I didn’t know which other path to take and school seemed to be an obvious choice. I knew ever since I was a kid I wanted to do something with music. That “something” I was never too sure of. I played in the marching band in high school but was never the best musician. I knew I loved music and my life would feel weird working anywhere that didn’t involve that. So, I went to school and changed my major around a handful of times from English, to Creative Writing, Advertising, to Journalism. At some point in my college career, I felt like leaving because I just didn’t know what was going to help me get to where I wanted to be. The expense and the commuting were mentally draining. I finally decided on graduating with my BA in Communications with a concentration in Entertainment and Tourism and I’m really glad I stuck it through to the end. I don’t have an exact job title in mind, but all I know is if I’m working somewhere that music is part of the focus, I will be happy.
