Bernie Worrell Fund

Bernie Worrell

June 24th, 2016: We are deeply saddened to announce that Bernie Worrell, the funk keyboardist who changed the game with his work in Parliament-Funkadelic, the Talking Heads, and his own solo work passed away this morning. Our hearts go out to his wife Judie and their son. Any donations received for the Bernie Worrell Fund will be allocated to assist his family during this very difficult time.

Bernie update

“Beloved keyboardist Bernie Worrell’s condition continues to deteriorate according to his wife Judie, who shared an update about his status on Bernie’s official Facebook page. Friends of Worrell, who is battling stage four lung cancer, have been urged to say their goodbyes to the keyboardist as he heads “home” after his condition has taken a turn for the worse.
A note from Judie reads, “I was just told that Bernie is now headed “Home”. If you are in the WA area and want to visit him to say your goodbyes, PM me. PLEASE do not call me. Bernie can no longer talk on phone nor can he text.”
Today’s update follows bad news shared last month that Worrell’s tumor had grown to the extent it is pressing on his vocal cords.
Our thoughts are with Bernie, his friends and family.” by Scott Bernstein via JamBase

Many thanks to Nona Hendryx and The Black Rock Coalition for putting together “All The WOO In The World” – A Benefit for Bernie Worrell that took place on Monday, Apr 04 at Webster Hall in New York City.  By all accounts, the evening was a tremendous success and we are also grateful to all of the artists that participated by either performing or donating items for auction.

We currently have a rare David Byrne signed Dubplate up for auction online that will go towards assisting Bernie.  Please click here for more details.

David Byrne has remixed “How Does the Brain Wave,” his 2007 collaboration with Baby Elephant — the project of DJ Prince Paul and Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell — to help raise funds for Bernie.  The former Talking Head has also tapped Jamie Lidell to remix the song, both of which are available to stream and purchase. Fans can choose how much they donate for the two songs, though there is a $1.99 minimum. Music Glue, the site through which the remixes are being sold will also donate their usual fee (minus a small transaction fee)!
